Upon reading about the plight of the families made homeless by the raging fire at Kampung Kerinchi last weekend, Metrojaya quickly arranged RM18,000 worth of emergency supplies to help those afflicted by the blaze.

The aid package consists of RM3,000 worth of essential foods, RM5,000 worth of clothing and a cheque for RM10,000.

Receiving the gift from Metrojaya Berhad Chairman Dato' Ahmad Khairummuzammil bin Yusoff on behalf of the victims was YB Datuk Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, MP for the Lembah Pantai constituency and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department. The donations took place at the Bangsar Sports Complex.

Speaking after the presentation, Dato' Ahmad expressed sympathy for those whose lives were ruined by the fire. "In our own small way, we would like to offer some basic necessities like rice, milk, sugar, cooking oil to the families involved in the tragedy. These are provided by our subsidiary, Cosmart hypermarket which operates in Bukit Jambul, Penang. Metrojaya has also brought together clothings that would help many who have lost all their belongings in the fire. Finally, the group is donating a sum of RM10,000 to start the ball rolling for corporate assistance to the homeless victims," he said.
