METROJAYA’S CHRISTMAS TREAT FOR UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN
On 15 December 2006, Metrojaya staff brought Christmas cheer to the hearts of the underprivileged children from Philea Home, a home for the children who come from hardcore poverty and broken homes.
The children were treated to a Christmas party where they received a party pack each and enjoyed a hearty meal of fried chicken and pizzas. The home administrator, Mrs Yoges said “most of the children had never tasted pizzas before as they could never afford such luxury food in their own homes previously and even now, at Philea Home, due to the limited funds, pizzas and other luxury food are never in their diet menu”.  So the pizzas were really a new treat to these children.
Philea Home is registered with the Welfare Department, Klang and was set up since 2004 by Mrs Yoges Muthu and her husband with the aim of providing shelter to the neglected and abused children up to the age of 18. Currently there are 48 children under their care, out of which 41 of them are school-going children and 5 are starting kindergarten in 2007.
Metrojaya distributed school uniforms and school bags to the school-going children who needed them for back to school in January 2007. Some of them were starting their first year in school.  When Metrojaya shared the children’s needs with one of its partners for Metrojaya’s “Back To School” campaign, Jerasia Apparel Sdn Bhd immediately offered to sponsor all the uniforms for the children whose names and sizes were provided by the Home.
The Home welcome volunteers to help out and have immediate needs such as mattresses, single fitted bed-sheets, pillows and blankets for the third house that they are now renting to accommodate the increased number of children. They also welcome basic needs and groceries such as Milo, Milk powder, storable food items, food supplements (vitamins such multi-vitamins & vitamin C), toiletries such as soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste and etc.
Their source of income consists mainly of public donations and due to limited funds, meat, poultry and fish are some of the food items that the home is really in need to maintain a healthy diet for the growing children.

“Have love not only for others, but for yourself as well. As a gift, compassion is one of the best and most widely needed in the world. Remember that love has the power to create and sustain life, dreams, and happiness; it forgives everything and remembers nothing except the best; and it lasts forever”.
